Basic Measuring
& Transfer of Scale
same
size parallel lines measure RefP 2 pt persp
For this lesson we are challenged to place 3 identical
length sticks on a picture plane in different parallel locations.
For parallel lines to appear correct in a perspective
drawing, their angles must point towards VP’s that are 90° apart on the EL-VL of the drawing.
To do this we have to set up a picture plane with an EL across the page. Place a VPr and a VPl so we can make guide lines for
things to go off into the distance at the correct angles.
Stick “A” is placed on the picture plane.
Place stick “B” parallel to and equal in size to the first
but further away from us. Draw a
guideline from the VPl to the front tip and another from the back of stick “A”, this allows
us to correctly place stick “B” within guideline perimeters.
Next, we will place another stick closer to us in the depth
of field. In order to transfer the
size of the stick correctly we will have to put a RefP on the EL-VL to measure from. To take measurements from stick “B” to
where stick “C” is going to be, we are going to move the RefP along our EL-VL until we find a good
location. This is a location that
will touch both ends of stick “B” and also where we want to put “C”. Draw a line from the RefP, measuring from the front of stick
“B” and another line from the back.
Now we can place stick “C” within these guidelines and finish drawing it
using the VP’s angles.
