HumBird Embroidery #07

A orange and red bird with black outline and white neck.

On “the tablecloth embroidery project” finished Hummingbird number 07. This character is a mixture of oranges and reds with dark shadows outlined in black with a stark white neck. He is perched for a second so his wings are not in motion. A rather rare instance in Hummingbird life.

A lavender and purple guy with dark blue and black on his wings and tail feathers.

On “the tablecloth embroidery project” now finished Hummingbird number 06. This character is done being stiched. His feet are are a earth tone brown. His mixture of lavender and purples with dark blue shadows on his ever moving wings and tail feathers is a color combination used a lot in my watercolors.

He is a lavender and purple guy with dark blue and black on his wings and tail feathers.

On “the tablecloth embroidery project”not quite finished Hummingbird number 06. He is still in my hoop being stiched on. His feet are waiting for color stiches very patiently. Should they be orange or black or even maybe a dirty brown? Hmmmm. Will probably finish him tonight. He is a mixture of lavender and purples with dark blue shadows on his ever moving wings and tail feathers. I can’t wait to draw him just ready to reach into a bunch of nectar filled blossoms.

I am sure I will draw him perching on a limb ready to reach into a nectar filled blossom.

On “the tablecloth embroidery project” just finished Hummingbird number 05. He is another orange guy with green and teal highlights on his wings and tail feathers. When the foliage gets drawn in I am sure I will draw him perching on a limb ready to reach into a nectar filled blossom.

A busy moment frozen in mid-flight just as he reaches into a blossom for nectar …

Hummingbird number 04 just finished on “the tablecloth embroidery project”. He is a green capped dude with green and black on his wings and tail feathers. He has an orange body with yellow highlights. A busy moment frozen in mid-flight just as he reaches into a blossom for nectar when the foliage gets drawn in I am sure.

He is another with blues and greens dude with white on his wings and an orange beak and feet.

Here is hummingbird number 03 just finished on “the current tablecloth”. He is another with blues and greens dude with white on his wings and an orange beak and feet. Am liking his under-belly view and wings spread out. A moment frozen in mid-flight.

As these tablecloths progress I notice that I try many new techniques with the needlwork to try and get different effects.

Here is hummingbird number 02 on “the current tablecloth”. He is a mixture of blues, grey and green or teal with black accents. There is a new technique with the wing feathers to try and display the ever present movement as they fly. As these tablecloths progress I notice that I try many new techniques with the needlwork to try and get different effects.

HumBird Embroidery #01

Embroidering hummingbird characters onto a tablecloth.

I started doing these kinds of projects as a child when my Grandma taught me how to embroider. Sitting in front of the TV, it is the way I survive the advertisement onslaught. Hate those commercials. I have kept most of my favorite projects including tablecloths for special occasions, pillowcases and t-shirts, but most are gifts for family like a butterfly and flowers design to my daughter-in-law, “Jamie” in South Carolina on her birthday. I have also done these (one a year) to take to the church yearly auction near Seattle for my tithing.

You may be wondering how many of these little hummingbird guys there will be on this one.  Can’t really say how many because I have put a bunch along the edge of a full size tablecloth and have not even put the flowers and branches in the design yet. I may be adding more to the mix or even taking a few out as I go. Truely an artist’s heaven as the design is figured out as I go.

Healing…

Sketches to embroider a tablecloth with.

Been doing a lot of patience building as I wait for my broken collar bone to heal, 6-10 weeks seems like forever. I am able to use my right arm in limited motions close to my body so I am starting a tablecloth embroidery. Gotta have something for my hands to do at night.
For those of you who know me you are probably saying, “Another one”? Yep this one is a favorite subject of mine. Can you guess?

I am looking forward to Spring’a arrival to be able to put out the humming bird feeders. I am also planting their favorite flowers this year too and just can’t wait to sit out on my deck drinking morning coffee and watching these little guys fly around.
